2008-03-30:

Bruce Delfeld / Bill Moon

I'm proud to announce that both Bruce Delfeld and Bill Moon were winners in the Area 32 International Speech and Evaluation Contest held this week.

Bill Moon took 2nd Place in the Speech Evaluation Contest and Bruce Delfeld also came home with 2nd Place in the International Speech Contest. Here they are holding their trophys.

Questions arose as to the karma of Bruce entitling his speech: "Second Best" considering the final rankings. But those of us "in the know" know that Bruce lives in The Twilight Zone anyway.

Barbara Lewis, ACG
Jeff Harman, VPE / Barbara Lewis, ACG

Club Secretary Barbara Lewis has completed her Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG) on the home stretch in nearing her goal to receive the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award.

Barbara chose to fulfill her final requirement for the award by presenting a multi-hour Toastmasters seminar on "How to Listen Effectively" to seven Renaissance Speakers at a special meeting held at her home. Following closely the seminar outline from the Success Communication Series, Barbara completed her requirements in style! We we all impressed with her excellent preparation and presentation as well as her leadership skill through various group exercises in listening.

Brava! and Congratulations! to Barbara.

Jeff Harman, 2006-2007 Membership Award
Jeff Harman and Debbie Ellish, District 52 Stars

The Sportsman's Club in Studio City hosted the Toastmasters District 52 Awards and Installation Banquet to award last year's officers and contributors and to officially install this year's district officers.

Sue Zenger from Renaissance was installed as a new Area Governor for the upcoming term.

Three members of Renaissance Speakers received District awards for their service last year. Ted Crisell received a Lecturn award for service as an Area Governor. Immediate Past-President, Jeff Harman received a beautiful plaque for gaining over 20 new members to the club during his presidency. Jeff Harman and past Vice-President Education Debbie Ellish both received "shooting star" awards for their outstanding contributions to District 52 becoming a Distinguished District.

Current President, Ray Korns attended and accepted the awards on behalf of Jeff and Debbie (who were in New York). It was great to see and renew old friendships as well as meet new friends from other clubs.

2007-06-24:

Debbie Ellish, VPE / Alberto Cabilan / Roberta Perry, DTM / Mick Coventry, ATMS

Today's meeting saw the award of Competent Communicator Toastmasters pins to three club members who again completed the required ten basic speech projects in the 2006-2007 Toastmaster year. It is a club tradition, not a requirement, that each member completes the set of ten speech projects from the Basic Manual once every year, no matter what Advanced Manuals or awards they are working toward completing. The purpose of this is summed up in one word: competence. Successful individuals in any profession continually practice the basics, and so it is with public speaking.

Vice President Education, Debbie Ellish awarded Alberto Cabilan, Roberta Perry and Mick Coventry with their pins signaling the completions. Their accomplishments will be submitted this week to Toastmasters International for formal recognition.

Thanks for contributing to making our club one of the foremost in the world!
